  1. The title is basically saying don't just read the words on the paper. You should read with your mind. You should think about things from the story and analyze things like symbolism. You should think over certain things and see if they mean more than what the author has written.

  2. I think this is talking about not to just read what's on the surface or just the words. Instead look beyond the words and images they create to see if there is an underlying theme or meaning to the certain situation such as a meal or a scene containing rain. Most all the time there is more to what the author wrote and he has left the door open for you to explore those possibilities. We have to read with our mind to and think about things instead of just look at the words.

  3. I think that the title is reaching out meaning that you shouldn't just read a book. I know when I read a book and its interesting to me, then I'm not just reading it, it almost becomes a little movie in my mind and I picture everything that happens, the characters, scenes, etc.

  4. I think the title meaning to say to go deeper in the book. Instead of just reading the words and putting down the book when your finished, look at the purpose of the book and see the theme. The books are made to create an idea or theory in your mind, so explore it.

  5. The title of this chapter "Don't read with your eyes" I think means that not to read with your eyes but they eyes of the character(s) in the book. This will help you feel like your in the story so that you can really understand what's going on. I think it's very important to feel like your a part of the story so that you can get the true meaning, otherwise your just going to wind up confused.

  8. "Don't Read With Your Eyes," to me means that simply don't just read with your eyes, read with your imagination.

  9. "Do not read with your eyes" means to me that readers do not just need to read something. They need to think "deep" as Mr. McElrath told us and need to get the real meaning behind what is in the text. There are a lot of literary devices that make you think "deep" about the text such as metaphors, allusions, and personification.

  10. The title means that when you read a passage or a novel or whatever, you should always try to look beyond the literal meaning of it. That is what you read with your eyes. But, the most entertaining part of reading is the other reading. Taking the words that your eyes got off the page and figuring out the actual meaning, the symbolic meaning, in your head. There is always something deep and meaningful hidden somewhere in literature. The fun part is trying to find it and identifying it.
